Quick answers and practical steps for the web start page and the controlled Windows desktop preview.
How do I choose a wallpaper?
Open the start page, choose Personalise and select Alpine dawn, Alpine afterglow or Quiet horizon. Your choice is stored locally and is used the next time you visit in this browser.
Why is the background missing in an older Windows preview?
The corrected Design Preview 20260913-V2 fixes an image-loading problem in V1. Staff should use the complete V2 package and its launcher from their testing coordinator, then open a fresh tab with Ctrl+T. Existing preview folders may open an older version.
If a custom browser theme is active, it supplies the background. Reset that theme in browser settings to use the CAQA wallpapers, or keep the theme you prefer. In Personalise, Quiet horizon deliberately uses a simple gradient.
How do I set local weather?
Select the location in the weather panel or use Personalise to change your city. Choose a listed city, or select Use my location and respond to the browser’s location permission prompt. Weather can be unavailable if the service or connection is interrupted.
Your time zone may suggest a city; it is not a detected location. Location coordinates are rounded before a forecast is requested. Read Privacy & security for details.
Can I turn weather off?
On the web start page, open Personalise and turn Local weather off. This stops forecast requests and remembers your choice in this browser. Turn it on again when you want forecasts. The installed V2 preview does not yet include this newer web setting.
Why is weather unavailable in the Windows preview?
The current native design preview’s security policy blocks its weather request. Select Open live weather to use the working web dashboard. Repeatedly pressing Try again cannot remove that preview limitation.
How do I change the clock or temperature units?
Choose Personalise, then select your clock format and temperature unit. The clock follows your device’s time zone. Changing a weather city does not change the clock.
How do I add or remove a quick link?
Choose Add shortcut, enter a name and a full web address beginning with https:// or http://, then save it. Manage existing links in the same dialog. The web start page supports up to eight shortcuts.
Can I use the start page in another browser?
Yes. Set https://browser.caqa.com/start as a startup page in your current browser settings, or bookmark it. A browser’s New Tab behaviour may need a separately supported setting or extension; visiting this site does not change it automatically.
How do I reset the web start page?
Select Privacy & weather at the bottom, then Reset homepage preferences. This resets the start-page preferences while keeping your weather on/off choice. It does not erase your browser history or sign you out of your accounts.
CONTROLLED WINDOWS PREVIEW
A useful test begins
with a clean setup.
These instructions are for designated staff with a package supplied by their CAQA testing coordinator. Public downloads are not available.
- Receive the approved complete package.Obtain the internal ZIP and its expected integrity hash from your coordinator. Do not download a CAQA executable from an unofficial site.
- Extract the whole archive.Choose a writable local folder and keep its App folder, launcher and accompanying files together. Running an EXE inside a ZIP is not a complete installation.
- Start with the supplied launcher.Run Launch-CAQA-Browser.cmd. The internal package creates a separate test profile. Do not copy your everyday browser profile into it.
- Use disposable test information.Check page loading, navigation, tabs, bookmarks, downloads and the start page. Keep production accounts and client data out of this unsigned preview.
- Record the exact build and result.State which package you tested and what happened. Design Preview 20260913-V2 fixes the missing wallpaper; it uses the earlier engine and does not include all newer development work.
Do not assume this preview receives production security updates automatically. Use only the next complete package supplied by your coordinator, keep test profiles separate, and follow its accompanying instructions.
Can I install any Firefox or Edge extension?
No. Similar extension formats do not guarantee compatibility or store access. CAQA’s XPI import work targets compatible Manifest V3 packages and remains pending final build and runtime validation. Firefox-only APIs and background pages need a developer port.
Signed compatible Chromium-format packages use the native CRX installer; end-to-end Microsoft store installation remains unverified. Read the current import guidance before testing.
What does the local manifest reviewer do?
It summarises declared website access, sensitive permissions and common compatibility issues from an extension’s manifest.json. The file remains in the page’s memory. It cannot inspect the extension’s code, verify its publisher or approve installation.
Why does an extension request access to websites?
Extensions may need site access to read or change page content. Broader access grants more power. Review the developer, purpose and permission prompt, and allow only the sites needed for the task.
Does CAQA include Firefox’s Gecko engine?
No. CAQA currently uses Chromium, Blink and V8. Mozilla Readability code is included through Chromium’s reading components. That is different from embedding Firefox’s browser engine.
